Main problems with AMD Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT Graphics Cards,

🔧 1. Overheating and throttling

Causes:

Poor contact between the crystal and the radiator.

Poor-quality thermal pads/thermal paste (especially in MSI, Gigabyte, XFX models).

Reference coolers (blower-style) often could not cope with cooling.

Symptoms:

Frequency reset (throttling), FPS drop.

Reboots, black screen under load.

Solution: replacing thermal interfaces, custom BIOS, improved cooling.

⚠️ 2. Driver problems

Especially relevant in 2019–2020, at the start of sales.

Symptoms:

Black screen after loading Windows.

Driver failure, freezes in games.

Frequent BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).

Solution: update to the latest driver version (Adrenalin), disable Hardware Acceleration in browsers.

🔌 3. Incorrect video memory (GDDR6)

Causes:

Overheating, VRAM controller failure, factory defect.

Symptoms:

Artifacts, freezes in games, rendering failure.

Solution: VRAM tests (OCCT, TM5, VRAM Test), if necessary - replace memory chips.

🔋 4. VRM and power supply circuit failures

Often, chokes, MOSFETs or PWM controllers suffer.

Symptoms:

The video card does not turn on.

Short circuit on the 12V or VCore line.

Solution: hardware diagnostics, replacement of power elements, BIOS firmware.

🧠 5. BIOS issues and version conflicts

Some cards had poorly configured BIOS, especially with factory overclocking.

Symptoms:

Safe mode.

Phantom driver errors.

Solution: flashing a verified BIOS (official or modified).

🏭 6. Issues with specific manufacturers

  • Gigabyte — often suffered from memory overheating due to thin gaskets.
  • MSI Mech — weak VRM cooling, overheating.
  • XFX — frequent complaints about poor assembly and instability under load.
