AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series Main Issues
🔧 1. Unstable memory (VRAM)
Symptoms: artifacts, game crashes, freezes.
Causes:
Video memory overheating (especially in models with GDDR6 and weak cooling).
Incorrect VRAM frequencies in BIOS.
Especially affects: RX 6800 XT, RX 6900 XT with factory overclocking.
🌡️ 2. High Hot Spot temperature
Symptoms: core temperature is normal, but Hot Spot can reach 100–110°C.
Causes:
Uneven contact between the chip and the radiator.
Bad thermal pads on the memory/VRM.
Solution: replace the thermal interface, grind the cooler base.
⚠️ 3. Driver failures and black screen
Especially at the start of sales (2020–2021).
Symptoms: black screen when loading Windows or when idle, driver crashes.
Causes:
Conflict with Windows 10/11.
Unstable versions of Adrenalin.
Solution: install a stable driver version (usually 22.5.1 LTS), disable Hardware Acceleration in browsers.
🔌 4. Coil Whine (coil squeak)
Symptoms: high-pitched squeak under high load (in games/benchmarks).
Causes:
Design features of VRM on individual models.
Lack of proper noise reduction or resin.
More pronounced in: PowerColor, ASRock, some MSI.
📉 5. Performance drop (low FPS)
Symptoms: FPS below expected level, stuttering.
Causes:
Poor driver optimization for DX11/OpenGL.
Smart Access Memory is not enabled.
Incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings or PCIe is running in x8/x4 mode.
Solution: update motherboard BIOS, enable Re-Size BAR.
🧰 6. Defective/weak cooling in certain brands
Weak cooling: ASUS Dual, XFX QICK, Gigabyte Eagle.
Reliable models: Sapphire Nitro+, PowerColor Red Devil, ASUS TUF.
✅ How to minimize problems:
- Update the video card BIOS to the latest (if available).
- Use Adrenalin drivers not lower than version 22.5.1.
- Check temperature readings via HWiNFO64.
- Clean cooling regularly, change thermal pads.
- Install the card in a case with good ventilation.
