GTX 760 Causes of Breakdowns
🔧 1. Overheating
- Cause: Clogged radiator, dried out thermal paste, worn out fans.
- Consequences: Throttling (frequency reduction), shutdown under load, artifacts on the screen.
- Solution: Cleaning, replacing thermal paste, installing new fans.
⚡ 2. Memory failure (VRAM)
- Cause: Increased temperatures or defective GDDR5 chips.
- Symptoms: Artifacts, blue screen, reboots.
- Solution: Replacing memory chips (requires equipment and soldering skills).
🔌 3. Damaged power elements (VRM)
- Cause: Voltage surges, poor cooling, low-quality power supply.
- Symptoms: Does not turn on, fan blinks, not detected by the system.
- Solution: Replace MOSFET, chokes, PWM controller.
🔄 4. BIOS / firmware issues
- Cause: Incorrect overclocking, firmware from a different version.
- Symptoms: Black screen at startup, no image.
- Solution: Reflash the original BIOS.
🧯 5. Mechanical damage
- Cause: Falls, transportation, incorrect installation.
- Symptoms: No video signal, physical cracks, broken components.
- Solution: Soldering or replacing components (if possible).
🧪 6. Oxidation / corrosion
- Cause: Humidity, condensation.
- Symptoms: Unstable operation, startup issues.
- Solution: Cleaning the board, drying, sometimes rolling the GPU or BGA chips.
🔍 The most problematic GTX 760 manufacturers:
- Palit, Inno3D, Zotac (cheap models) - weak cooling, saving on components.
- MSI Gaming and ASUS Strix - less common, but after 7-9 years of operation, the same problems are possible.
