RX Vega 56 / RX Vega 64

The RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64 are interesting graphics cards with good potential, especially in tasks where memory management and modern graphics APIs are important. They offered an alternative to NVIDIA, especially during the GPU shortage or mining boom, but suffered from high temperatures and power consumption. Today, they are still used, especially in budget gaming or workstation builds.

Main competitor from NVIDIA

High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) — especially useful for professional tasks (rendering, 3D modeling, machine learning).

Asynchronous Compute and Vulkan/DirectX 12 support — excellent performance in modern APIs and games optimized for multithreading.

Multi-core GCN architecture — suitable for parallel computing and OpenCL-type tasks.

HBM2 memory — faster than competitors' GDDR5/5X, but more expensive to manufacture.

Cons and features:

🔺 High power consumption and heat generation - Vega 64 is especially "hot" and requires powerful cooling.

🔺 Uneven performance in different games - in DX11 and OpenGL, productivity is lower than NVIDIA.

🔺 Less efficiency compared to NVIDIA Pascal in watts - worse performance/power consumption ratio.
